Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is an in-office procedure usually taking about 2 hours for scalp injections for hair loss treatment. There is only minimal discomfort with no downtime, and you can drive yourself home.
A sample of your blood is drawn in our office and spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma and platelets from the red blood cells. The extracted PRP, from your blood, is then injected into the scalp targeted areas for hair growth. PRP can promote significant hair growth and is used either in place of or synergistic with Hair Transplantation.
PRP is a relatively new procedure used in hair regrowth and arthritic joint repair. Platelet Rich Plasma is used because the platelets normally found in ones blood is populated with granules rich in healing and growth factors. For example, when skin is injured platelets soon populate the area and release their granules to heal the injury by repairing the skin and repopulating the damaged hair follicles. When PRP is injected into the scalp with hair loss the platelets release the granules that can regrow hair. When PRP is injected into an arthritic joint the released granules repair damage caused by arthritis.
PRP is a relatively new and safe procedure that is an in-office procedure that requires no downtime. We use PRP injections to treat scalp hair loss and arthritic joints.
