• HAIR LOSS

Male and female pattern alopecia is the medical term used to describe the most common form of hair loss. If you have the genes for hair loss, at a predetermined age and duration, hair loss will occur. When follicles in a certain area of the scalp are exposed to specific hormones (DHT especially in males), the follicles atrophy and stop producing hair. The area involved is evident in the usual areas of hair loss, termed male pattern alopecia or female pattern alopecia.

The usual areas of the scalp where hair is resistant to hair loss, is genetically different, on the sides and back of the scalp. At your consultation, you and Dr. Arthur Zacco will decide on an individual plan that is right for you. Hair is taken from the resistant areas and transplanted into the susceptible areas of hair loss. Once transplanted, the resistant follicles retain their genetic coding and continue to produce hair for the entire life of the individual. Transplanting ultra fine follicular units produce a natural look that is virtually undetectable.

There are other more rare forms of hair loss, such as Alopecia Areata, Scarring Alopecia, thyroid disease and others. These conditions need to be directly evaluated and individually treated.
